Cheap and chic of the week

Today I bring you menswearish button-downs, which form the basis for my favorite of all the French fashion editor outfits: the simple but perfect jeans-and-button-down ensemble. The Frenchies didn’t invent this combo, of course—it’s American to the core—but they did manage to perfect it, getting the crucial shirt and jeans slouch-to-tight ratio just right so that the look skews feminine, and mastering the all-important half-tuck. It’s the easiest look in the world to copy: the key is to get that slouch going, and for that you need a nice, roomy shirt. So choose one of the oversized options I’ve included here, or size up.

striped shirt buttoned low is just so sexy, I don’t know why.

This oversize option has a nifty split hem in back.

Classic blue with a pocket is kind of fun and preppy.

Oversize, with micro-stripes.

I love this look and wear more often then not.
Question, can this be pulled off with high rise jeans?
I am trying desperately to branch out in jeans department but don’t want to give up the slouchy button down….

Emmanuelle is killing it here, like always.

I’ve been looking for this forever, the perfect slouchy shirt. I once chased a woman out of a building to ask where she found the one she was wearing, but I lost her!

I had been looking for this exact thing and wandered into the Gap yesterday and bought two of the Boyfriend Popovers in the blue versions. These shirts have that perfect slouch and wrinkle and they look great with the half-tuck perfected by all those French editors…
Thanks Kim for always sharing such great tips and finds!
