Your questions, answered
>
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was coming up on my 3000th post, and that in observance of that, I’d answer whichever questions you cared to lob my way. Here, at last, are the answers.
If you were a plant, what would you be? If you were a cocktail, what would you be?
I would be a plant that requires a great deal of sunshine and a not-insignificant amount of care. And I think I’d be a whiskey sour: sweet but tart.
Which item that you, for whatever reason, talked yourself out of purchasing, do you regret missing out on the most? And what item that you surplussed from your closet, for whatever reason, do you miss the most?
Back in the Lucky days, we got this Chanel necklace in for a shoot that was composed entirely of (fake) pills—you can see it here—and at the time I was on a ton of different medications for my depression and my whole life was pills, it felt like, and I thought it was the funniest thing I’d ever seen. I don’t think I ever would have worn it much, which is why I didn’t buy it, but I still would have been delighted to own it. And I regret getting rid of the old, beaten-up Levi’s jacket I’d owned since high school.
How much money do you spend on shoes/clothes/accessories per month?
A whole bunch of you were curious about this one. And the most honest answer I am willing to give is the following: far less than I used to. (more…)
Let’s have some fun
This week, I will publish my 3000th post. Back in 2016, when I published my 2000th, I gave you all the opportunity to ask me anything, and since one of you suggested we make that a regular event, I’ve decided to do it again. As long as the question isn’t too excruciatingly personal, or the reply too potentially libelous, I’ll answer it. See you in the comments.
What are you curious about reading?
Next up on my list is Educated, a memoir by Tara Westover. It’s about the author’s journey from growing up with a religious, survivalist father who didn’t believe in education to graduating from Cambridge University, and it’s supposed to be amazing. You?
Wake up and take the GOACA redesign poll, everyone (Poll closed)
(Poll closed)
As I mentioned a while back, Girls of a Certain Age is getting a little redesign. I’m not out to reinvent this site, just to update and refine it, and it is really important to me that in doing this, I don’t add some feature you all loathe, or get rid of something you might adore. This poll will take you no time at all to complete—it’s really quick, promise—and so I’m hoping a whole ton of you will respond. Thanks a million in advance, ladies.
What is your favorite funny movie of all time?
I’ve got a few that are pretty high up on the list, including This is Spinal Tap and In The Loop, but if I had to pick one classic, it would be the original The In-Laws, from 1979. Here is a scene that gets me every time.
A note about GOACA
We’re going to have a redesign in the coming months—not right away, but sooner than later. Part of the reason is because this site was built in 2012 and needs updating on a technical level quite badly, but also I think it might be fun to freshen up the look of things. It is very important to me that you all are on board with this, so I’m asking for your suggestions: what would you like to see here that isn’t here? What would you hate to see go? I’m talking about everything from actual content to visuals to the logo. Please share your thoughts. I can’t do this without you.
