How forthcoming are you about your age?

Screen Shot 2016-02-16 at 11.50.43 AM

No judgments here, just curious. If you play with the truth or refuse to reveal your age, is the reason more professional or personal? And if you are straight-up about it,what inspires this?  I pretty much always reveal the truth—52 on Thursday—because just enough has been written about me to make it impossible to lie, and because I’d rather look decent for my age than not so great for the age I was trying to get away with.

I get happy just looking at this Missoni plate.

Cheap and chic of the week

dead ringer

I like embroidered tops best when they have the simplest of color palettes—they’re more graphic that way—and when they don’t cost a fortune, which way too many embroidered tops do. Here is a dead ringer for a much pricier specimen that Nili Lotan did last season.

tassel top

The black background makes this one as totally wearable now as it will be when it warms up.

anthro top

Almost too much embroidery, but somehow it works.

Top 5 of the week

This post is inspired by two things: 1. the fact that it has been pissing rain for two days straight, and 2. my charming and beautiful friend Ceridwen, who braved the downpours to have dinner with me last night (and who gave me the idea for this post, so I suppose that’s three things). These are all on the longer side because the last time I did a post on rain jackets, a number of you complained they were too short to be of much help when it’s really wet out. Let’s start with the splurgiest first, because of course it’s the one I can’t get out of my head: I’m not typically a fan of peplum, but here it really works for me, probably because it doesn’t poof out, the way peplum usually does, but instead just sort of hangs there like a cool extra layer.

A few things I like on this option: the fishtail hem, the stand collar, and the excellent neutral-enough-to-go-with-a-lot color.

Super-lightweight and highly packable.

Nothing quite like a classic yellow slicker, and this one from Petit Bateau has the added extra bonus of a super-cute striped lining.

So cute and shiny, and at an unbeatable price.
