Reader, I bought it
Forgive me in advance for breaking the GOACA price limit, but several of you asked what I was wearing in this picture, and I have been dying for an excuse to show you what is without a doubt my most exciting purchase of the entire fall anyway. I will say this for Isabel Marant: when she nails it, she really nails it.
Print of the week
It’s all about the back view on this one.
Wednesday links
- RIP to Oscar de la Renta, maker of the pretty. (NY Times)
- And let’s also bid a fond farewell to original badass Ben Bradlee. (NY Times)
- This Ohio State Marching Band tribute to classic rock makes me stupidly happy.
- Fun facts from studies about online dating—like for instance the fact that putting the word “love” in your profile actually ups your chances of finding it.
- These photographs and accompanying interviews with various New Yorkers about what they are reading on the subway are a delight. (BBC News)
Wednesday trifecta: silk tees
I bought two new long-sleeved silk tees for fall, and they’ve already proven to be fantastically versatile: they work just as well with your slouchiest trousers as your tightest jeans, can be dressed way up or down, and tucked and way you please: in, out, or the old half-and-half. This windowpane check could not be a whole lot simpler, but stops well short of austere.
A super zoomed-in plaid from one of my all-time favorite brands, A Detacher.
A totally subtle—but nevertheless thoroughly arresting—abstract print.
Cheap and chic of the week
This moto jacket from Loft’s little sister line Lou & Grey is like a more casual, cooler, infinitely cheaper version of this.
Shine on
I once thought that my taste would become more refined and understated as I aged, but the older I get, the more I am drawn to bright, shiny things (am I alone in this?)—and I’m pretty sure that by the time I hit my seventies, I’m going to be one of those ladies whose outfits are far more amusing than they are stylish. I feel similarly about items for the home: gold used to strike me as tacky for interiors, but now I’m loving little hits of it: like this Fornasetti trinket tray, which is currently on my top 5 list of things I’d like to receive as a gift.
A wee chevron box for your whatnots.
Just an urchin-shaped thing that I suddenly feel quite strongly belongs on my coffee table.
I totally already own this.
