Print of the week, heads exploding edition
Ever since Liberty made their weensy play-luggage, I have been longing for some of the real thing. So imagine my delight upon encountering this Ianthe-print weekender on their site this morning. In blue and black! There is no conceivable way this was put on earth for me to resist.
Some things I wish were parked in my closet right now
…and of which I could easily rationalize the purchase, because they are all, in their own way, classics, and I know I would wear them into the ground. This oatmeal-tone tailored coat from Emerson Fry is just a shade more practical than white, and chic as the day is long.
My taste in clogs has gotten so tricky lately (reader, I bought these) that I’m kind of liking the idea of settling in with something on the more classic side.
Like your favorite A-line skirt, but a squidge arty-er.
Just a basic black sweater with a big old zipper up the side.
A sleekified saddle bag—unadorned just how I like them, and so cool in the blue.
Business in the front, party in the back
I could not be a bigger fan of the tucked-in-front, untucked-back look: button-down shirts look so chic with jeans or trousers, but I always feel like a guy when I’m wearing one, and this styling trick just seems to loosen things up and feminize them a bit. Plus, there’s the extra added bonus of comfort and butt coverage. Win-win all around.
No better place to get things started than with something super-crispy, extra-white and poplin.
As good a menswear blue as one could hope to find.
This super-loose, contrasty striped number is on crazy backorder, but I’m considering adding my name to the list anyway.
Not technically a button-down, but brilliantly drapey and camouflagey in all the right places (and I speak from experience here) when paired with skinny jeans.

Your makeup bag only has room for three items. What are they?
This question is so hard for me to answer that I almost didn’t ask you guys to; my makeup loyalties are many. But off we go: number one with a bullet is BB Tinted moistiurizer from Tarte, which I bought over the winter when I was breaking out badly with what I’m pretty sure was roseaca. I needed something with good coverage so I wouldn’t scare small children when I walked down the street, and it’s great on that front: it totally evens you out, and you can still see you skin, which is key. But the truly amazing thing about this stuff—and I almost don’t want to say this for fear I’ll jinx it—is that pretty much as soon as I started using it, my breakout started to clear. And it has not returned even once. People have been complimenting me on my skin a lot these days and I tell them it’s because of all the green juice I drink (I drink so much green juice, and the gunky all-vegetable kind too). But really, it’s this magic potion, I’m pretty sure.
I had never been able to pull off a true, classic red lip until I picked up this stain and now I’m obsessed. Somehow, the fact that it’s in a chubby pencil format and not an actual lipstick makes it less scary-pigmenty and ten times easier to apply.
You know it has to be good, because the name is so annoying that there’s no way I’d use it if it wasn’t.
Cheap and chic of the week
This leopard-print car coat from Loft not only looks more expensive than it is, but is currently—like every single solitary other item on the site—40% off. Do not delay, people. They never tell you when these things end.
