Morning links

  • Loving this poster that Joan Baez and her sisters Pauline and Mimi made in 1968 to benefit the Draft Resistance. (Retronaut)
  • In honor of its 43rd season, which just kicked off: 43 little-known Sesame Street facts. Also, some of its more notable and spoofs. (Mental floss, Daily Beast)
  •  This is kind of gross. But also quite fascinating. (Daily What)
  • I don’t usually go in for this type of thing, but I must say that Katy Perry’s Daria nail art is quite winning.
  • And…Madeleine Albright on drums. (New York)

That poster is so SEXIST! What’s to love?

You have some of the best links… Thank you for that!

And like a fool, I watched the You Tube video of Big Bird singing “Being Green” at Jim Henson’s memorial service and now I’m a weepy, snotty puddle o’ mess here at work.

There’s something really creepy about that poster. You know how many women were raped during hippy times, many of them coerced. Hey, Be cool, you’d sleep with me if you were cool.

  6. ng … I too, remember how snotty boys were in those days. My husband understands why we have very different memories of the times! A year or so after this poster came out, I made a special trip to the hat department at the May Company in San Diego to purchase a hat just like the one on Mimi (the wide brimmed floppy.) I found just what I was looking for, in deep wine colored felt. Smiling happily at myself in the mirror, I made eye contact with the grim looking saleswoman. “You look like a mushroom,” she said. Some things never change.
